I really should be working on my thesis…

7 Aug

Alternative Title: I am AWESOME at procrastinating!

So… I should be writing about political tactics and the influences of said tactics on workplace bullying… buuuuuut I can’t be bothered. Also, my brain has been on frantic-wedding-mode since Monday and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why! I was fine last week, working hard on my thesis and all, and then – POOF! – gone. No focus – no concentration.

It really sucks.

But it does mean I’m getting some wedding-related things out of the way.

For example, I’ve been putting off ‘ceremony wording’ for a while because I just didn’t want to peruse through the thick book of ceremonial suggestions. Yesterday, I buckled down and managed to write down our choices in cohesive order. It’s obviously not the whole ceremony, since that will be refined by our celebrant, but I’m happy to have gotten that out of the way. Now I just need GP to read through it, add his own revisions, answer some of the questions, and we can send it off to our celebrant.

Yay!

I’ve also been going through some DIY projects. Mainly, the simplest of them – personalised coat hangers for the girls. All I needed was a black sharpie, graphite pencil, eraser, ribbon and a wooden hanger.

Done.

My makeup and hair trial is coming up this Sunday. I’ve tried changing it to Saturday, but the hair and makeup team I’m with are a little… late to reply to things. I might text or call them.

Otherwise, I haven’t done much and there isn’t much else to plan apart from the finer details which are more-or-less dependent on guest numbers and the like.

So yeah guys – I really should be working on my thesis…

This is MADNESS!

Now that that’s out of the way, it’s time to get a little serious. I’m currently in the middle of anxiously awaiting a reply from my Course Convener regarding my studies. And before people ask, it’s ok…

I passed both of my subjects from this semester. 🙂

(As a sidenote, GP is very proud – he gloats that I’m a “smart-wo-MAN” (emphasis on the man – I love this guy).)

The reason why I’m anxious is because I only just realised that the subject I WANTED to do this Semester (Qualitative/Quantitative Research) needs two pre-requisite subjects in order to enrol. These two are: 1) Statistics for Social Research, and 2) Contemporary Perspectives on Crime. Now… I’ve done the first subject and passed with a HD (yayz!). BUT, I haven’t done the second one.

Insert freaking out here.

Why am I freaking out? Well, if I have to do Contemporary Perspectives this semester, I have to do Qual/Quan Research NEXT semester. In 2014. The year I’m getting married. Which means I’m in Australia for the next 6 months next year.

You guys are probably thinking: “Uh… yeah, so what? Why is this in your wedding blog? What does THIS have to do with getting married?”

Well, it means GP and I have to push back our plans to go overseas for an extended period to June/July, instead of the intended March! Which means a later honeymoon and stress on both GP and my part. Not to mention, we really don’t want to remain in our current housing condition after the wedding, which means moving out and all the stress that comes with it…

HOWEVER, there is a silver lining!

You see, I need to do a total 120 credit points (CP) of subjects in order to pass my current course. As of right this second, I’ve done 100CP, so I only need 20CP more. In addition to this, my course requires me to do both a thesis AND coursework. Each thesis component (there are four of them) are worth 10CP. Which means, 4 thesis components = 40CP.

Everyone still following me?

Great!

Now, I’ve done 20CP out of 40CP. So I have another 20CP-worth of thesis components to do!

SO, I’m hoping that my course convener will tell me that I don’t need to do Contemporary Perspectives and Qual/Quan Research, and that all I need is 20CP more to complete the course. Which means, I have four months of JUST FOCUSING ON MY THESIS! WHOO!

That would WIN on so many levels.

Wish me luck guys!

Dressing the parteh people!

Good afternooooooooooooooooon people!

I woke up at 5AM this morning to go to the gym and I. am. exhausted. Realistically, I should’ve had a power nap this afternoon, but got caught up playing Dragon Age: Origins. Now that my exam is done and all my assignments have been handed in, I should be focusing on my thesis work, but no.

I’m playing Xbox games.

Tomorrow I’ll have to buckle down and get to writing my Introduction and Lit Review as well as finally getting an ENTIRE month to code those gorramn interviews.

As for wedding news, we’ve got (most) of the guest list sorted, which is GREAT. We sent out our invitations early, purely because we have guests who may be coming from overseas (Canada, the UK, Indonesia, and NZ). It’s still 7 months until the wedding, but that’s ok! GP and I were happy that our invitations were out of the way and we don’t need to worry about them! I’ll have to have a full-fledged “making of” the invitations later on, but right now, this post will talk about wedding clothing.

We have succeeded in getting most of the clothes for the important members of the bridal party!

  • Bride – Check! (deposit paid, getting fitted tomorrow, feeling fabulous!)
  • Groom – Check! (and looking so. very. suave in his suit, may I add)
  • Groomsmen – Check! (and we’ll [hopefully] be seeing them in these suits later on in July!)
  • Bridesmaids – Almost… (got to get one more set of measurements and then we can buy ’em)
  • Mother-of-the-bride – Check! (my ma is altering her own dress and it’s looking really good – now all we need to do is buy her that necklace and we’re done!)
  • Mother-of-the-groom – Not yet, I think (I haven’t asked her about her search in a while, but seeing as we’ll be in NZ in July, I’m hoping we can find something together 🙂 )
  • Father-of-the-bride – Check! (we got one for my pa when we were getting groom and groomsmen suits – his suit is a more dark slate grey and looks dashing on my daddy)
  • Father-of-the-groom – Check! (I haven’t seen him in his suit personally, but as I said – NZ in July, hopefully he can put the suit on for us to have a look!)

We just need to get a few more things to complete the ensembles (double-cuff/French-cuff shirts for the men, the necklace for my ma, accessories and shoes for the girls) and then we’re set. I’m super excited to know we finally have a look for these very important people! 🙂

Take that exam!

13 Jun

Hello all!

I’ve been absent recently because of one thing: exams.

You see, I’m a full-time Masters student – I’m doing both coursework and an Honours degree, so effectively I have a full-time job that doesn’t stop. Luckily I get to study from home, but one of my subjects had an exam which I’ve been studying copiously since the beginning of last week. I’m happy to say that I have finally done it and I am FREE! It wasn’t too hard, but I know if I hadn’t have studied, I wouldn’t be feeling as calm as I do now.

Now, onto wedding things!

Since GP and I have completed about 80% of the big ticket items, the one thing we need to settle is the clothes for the wedding party. Well, I’m happy to say that we’ve officially got the suits for the men! 🙂 Connor, a men’s store here in Australia, were having a sale on suits – and may I mention, snazzy looking suits! Because GP and I will be buying the bridal party’s attire, this was just the BEST time to be buying it.

The particular suit we wanted for the handsome groom and his groomsmen was called the Grand. It’s a slate-grey suit with a sleek maroon lining and nice black lapels. GP tried it on and he looks GOOOOD (I could be biased…). At the same time, my daddy bought his suit! His suit is called the Berwick. It’s a darker gray than the Grand and the suit that GP’ s dad is wearing. My dad tried it on with a waistcoat and the pants and it’s AMAZING on him. I can’t wait to see him all fully-duded out.

Now all we need is to get double-cuff (French cuff) shirts for the men in the colours we want and we’re set for the guys!

As for my girls, I’ve got my measurements for my two sisters and I’m awaiting the rest of the measurements from my girls. I’ve given them the rough guide on getting these measurements and am hoping to get something ordered before June 20. There’s a sale going on right now which will be great for my wallet, hahah! My own first dress fitting will be this coming Monday, so I’m ecstatic about that!

All of it is finally coming together and I’m getting super excited!

It’s been a while…

9 Aug

Hello readers!

First off, I’d like to sincerely apologise for the long absence. It’s been pretty hectic here. University started… two weeks ago (I think) and work started last week for me. Add to this the in-laws coming (this Friday!), wedding planning and the fiance going back and forth between Sydney and Adelaide, and it’s been a whirlwind. I’ve been attempting to clean up the house (and not going too bad) as well as do my university work and pre-work work stuff.

So what have I also done in terms of wedding planning/ideas? Well:

  • I got a package in the mail. Will not divulge what said package is, but I was uber excited!
  • I’ve been trying to wear my shoes in so that they’re comfortable when it comes time for me to officially wear them. The outer edges of the leather are a little pinchy but overall, they are s-h-m-i-c-k~!
  • I’ve sketched out dress ideas for both myself and my bridesmaids. I’m super excited to send these off to the wonderful Mandy Heng who I’m communicating with to make my dresses (her shop is called Mandy Heng Designs – go there, you will not be disappointed).
  • I think I may have found the song. Will update once I’ve let GP hear it out…
  • We (my family, me, GP and two of my bridesmaids) went to an expo on Sunday. It was awesome. We got ideas. I got free stuff. YAY!
  • My dad had a heart-to-heart with me regarding the wedding. I got super emotional. It was then followed by him excitedly announcing that he had ideas for bombonieres (wedding favours). It was cute. AND he gave me ideas. GENIUS.
  • I’ve been compiling a list of MUST PLAY songs for the wedding. It’s getting longer by the day.
  • MY ENGAGEMENT RING FINALLY FITS. EFF YEAH.
  • We’re FINALLY (finallyfinallyfinallyfinally) having the Sydney-based engagement party. It’s going to be small, inexpensive and intimate. BOOYEAH.
  • I’ve (finally) started (or should I say, re-started) my fitness regime. I am terribly unfit. BOO. Plus side, we’re finally starting Lite n Easy. YAY.

And that is all so far. I will update you, in detail, if/when I can. This weekend is going to be HECTIC.

Ideas…

26 Jul

In order to avoid reading my texts for my Masters course, I’ve been trawling through ideas. I’ve come across a few cute things, but nothing that really struck out to me. This, however, has been something GP and I have been discussing for some time…

“You may now update your Facebook status.”

Yep. You guessed it. We want this done at the ceremony. Question is: should we?

I also found a cute place that tells you how to DIY packages for sparklers. Another idea that I think would be pretty awesome. Also, who doesn’t love sparklers? …well, I might know someone who doesn’t… but most people do!
