Takin’ Love by the Horns: Puttin’ on the Dress

27 Jun

The girls were ready, the guys were ready, so what now?

Well, hive, this:

Ladies and gents, meet “Radiant”.

Was going onto this:

I look strangely unimpressed.

At this point all the girls had seen my dress in the making, but this was the first time they’d see it in all of its glorious glory. Because my photographers and videographers didn’t want me stripping down to my underwear in the living room they asked me to don my underwear in another room, pull the dress on over my underwear, and then walk out. They would then film and photograph me getting all laced up.

I loved this plan, so off I went, with my girls and Radiant in tow, to the bedroom I had been staying at that night. During this time, I forgot where I had put my Spanx and as the girls went looking, I carefully untied my kimono. It was at that point that something hilarious happened.

Now, back story. I share what one would call a special relationship with BM Cupcakes. We’ve known each other since Primary School, and up until recently, she was convinced I was out to “get” her purely because I remember silly little things that happened to her in Primary School. I assured her this wasn’t the case, but that BM Cupcakes is simply “memorable”. She and I are also the more ‘bustier’ girls of the group.

So as I removed my kimono, revealing my bra, BM Cupcakes leapt at my boobs and cupped them.

Yes guys. She leapt at my boobs.

After a brief pause, to which she stood back and gave me my Spanx, the only thing I could think was: “Why’d you do that for?”

Her reply: “It was the only chance I’d ever have of doing that.”

I love you BM Cupcakes.

After the boob-grabbing incident, I then proceeded to pull the dress over me and step back out into the living room, the train gently trailing behind me. Even though I wasn’t done up yet, I felt fabulous. As I positioned myself for optimum photo-taking, my girls did me up.

BM Superhero, having learnt from Mandy how to do up my dress, assisted Mama Bighorn in lacing up my dress.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of pictures of me getting into the dress (but heaps on video). So I’ll leave you with a picture of me in the dress!

I’d put more up, but I’d be spoiling you guys! (And trust me, there will be LOTS more to come.)

Up next, Mr Big is blindfolded and cuts a red ribbon.

Take that exam!

13 Jun

Hello all!

I’ve been absent recently because of one thing: exams.

You see, I’m a full-time Masters student – I’m doing both coursework and an Honours degree, so effectively I have a full-time job that doesn’t stop. Luckily I get to study from home, but one of my subjects had an exam which I’ve been studying copiously since the beginning of last week. I’m happy to say that I have finally done it and I am FREE! It wasn’t too hard, but I know if I hadn’t have studied, I wouldn’t be feeling as calm as I do now.

Now, onto wedding things!

Since GP and I have completed about 80% of the big ticket items, the one thing we need to settle is the clothes for the wedding party. Well, I’m happy to say that we’ve officially got the suits for the men! 🙂 Connor, a men’s store here in Australia, were having a sale on suits – and may I mention, snazzy looking suits! Because GP and I will be buying the bridal party’s attire, this was just the BEST time to be buying it.

The particular suit we wanted for the handsome groom and his groomsmen was called the Grand. It’s a slate-grey suit with a sleek maroon lining and nice black lapels. GP tried it on and he looks GOOOOD (I could be biased…). At the same time, my daddy bought his suit! His suit is called the Berwick. It’s a darker gray than the Grand and the suit that GP’ s dad is wearing. My dad tried it on with a waistcoat and the pants and it’s AMAZING on him. I can’t wait to see him all fully-duded out.

Now all we need is to get double-cuff (French cuff) shirts for the men in the colours we want and we’re set for the guys!

As for my girls, I’ve got my measurements for my two sisters and I’m awaiting the rest of the measurements from my girls. I’ve given them the rough guide on getting these measurements and am hoping to get something ordered before June 20. There’s a sale going on right now which will be great for my wallet, hahah! My own first dress fitting will be this coming Monday, so I’m ecstatic about that!

All of it is finally coming together and I’m getting super excited!

Veiled and other little things…

17 Feb

Hello all!

First and foremost, the thing which GP dislikes seeing in this blog:

GP, there will be talk of the dress, the veil, and some other accessories. Please do not read this post!!

I love you! ❤

Is he gone? Okay… now, onto the matter at hand…

I’ve talked to my dressmaker – Mandy – and we’ve officially chosen a month where the dress will commence becoming a sketch on a piece of paper to a full-fledged article of clothing. That month is April – as for day, we haven’t figured that out. We’re both still trying to work out bits and bobs on the dress, like the fact that we want to do something with the skirt for a potential dance we have in mind. GP gave me a wonderful idea, and I’ll have to address that with Mandy when I get the chance. I’ll also have to buy a petticoat, but I know where I can get one for relatively cheap (and it’s not a hoop petticoat as well – I wore one, I didn’t like it…).

Mandy has also stated that she’s happy to help me with my veil. She’s sent me a picture of a veil which she believes will work with the intricacies of the dress, and I must say – I LIKE. I’d put a picture up but… I’m a little bit worried that it’ll pop up when GP decides to click on the link… so if you guys are interested (and I know those on FB read this), shoot me a message and I’ll send you a picture 🙂

The veil will have a comb attached, so that means I don’t need to buy a brooch (or really, tell my friends that they need to rethink my 25th birthday idea…).

Needless to say, I’m uber excited about the whole thing and can’t WAIT to get this underway. I still need to lose a LOT of weight before I’m happy with where I am, but Grant and I are now going forward with our plans and hoping that nothing will interrupt (like a lot of things did last year…). I’ve been drinking so much water that I’m now sick of water… like seriously, SICK of water… but I know it’s good for me, so I’m forcing myself to do it.

As for the other little things, I’m musing what else to do to – as they say – “complete the look”. My “something borrowed” will be earrings and a necklace from my mum. I also want to wear a beautiful Swarovski bracelet I got from my fiance on our first anniversary. All these pieces of jewellery have red on them, so it’ll suit with the red lacing/ribbon that’ll be weaved through the corset. I haven’t really considered hair accessories – as I’ll be wearing a veil and have my hair in an up-down-hairdo – but I don’t think I’ll be wearing my veil ALL day. During the reception, I want to change out of the veil and into something else, but I’m not entirely sure what.

I’ve found two potential websites to look at: www.shopruche.com (which I’ve been stalking forever but haven’t personally bought anything from there – although my bridesmaids and GREATEST FRIEND IN THE WORLD A bought me a super cute bag there) and www.sugarblossom.com.au. They both have inexpensive bridal accessories.

I’m super excited now that everything seems so close to fruition. 🙂 Wish us luck guys!
